COMPARING COVER FAQ'S

It’s important to choose the right policy for your kind of holiday. At Zoom, we offer three different plans for a single overseas trip, a domestic plan and frequent traveller plans for the jetsetters amongst you.  You can also tailor your policy with additional options such as specifying high value items that you're taking with you, adding our Ski Pack if you're hitting the slopes, or our Adventure Pack if your trekking, plus plenty more options to ensure you have adequate cover..

  • Which policy is best for me?
  • The best policy for you may not be what’s best for someone else. When buying travel insurance, it’s important to look for cover that’s going to suit your needs.  For example, if you're heading on a long trip with just a rucksack, you may not need a lot of luggage cover and our Medical Only policy may suit. Whereas if you've outlaid a lot of upfront fees for an upcoming cruise, you'll need to select our Cruise Pack add-on and ensure that the cancellation benefit limits covers your prepaid expenses in the event that had to cancel your trip.

At Zoom, we give you the option to tailor your policy to suit your needs.  Reading reviews for travel insurance on sites such as Compare Travel Insurance is also a great way to find out more information.

  • Do your plans cover cruises?
  • If you're heading on a cruise, you must purchase our cruise pack in order to be covered.  This can be added to This will ensure that your covered from ship to shore for any medical treatment you receive on board and for helicopter evacuation should you require emergency medical assistance.

  • I am currently overseas but have no insurance, can I buy travel insurance?
  • No, you need to purchase Zoom travel insurance before you depart Australia.

  • What age limits apply to Zoom's travel Insurance?
  • Zoom's Medical Only, Standard and Frequent Traveller policies cover travellers up to the age of 69. Our comprehensive and domestic policies cover travellers up to 85 years old.  You must also be under the age of 69 to purchase our add-on ski or adventure packs.

  • Am I covered for adventure activities?
  • We automatically cover a wide range of adventure sports and activities including bunjee jumping and horse riding. If you're planning on getting your heart pumping with some riskier activities such as high altitude trekking, and high grade white water rafting, you will need to buy our Adventure Pack. This can be added to all plans, except the Medical Only plan. See a full list of Zoom's additional sports and adventure activties.

  • Are there per item limits on your luggage benefit?
  • Yes, for personal computers, laptops, video recorders or cameras, there is a per item limit of $3,000.  For mobile phones and tablets (including PDAs, smartphones and any item with phone capabilities) there is a per item limit of $1,000.  For all other items, the limit is $750.

If you have an expensive item that you just can’t leave behind you can insure it separately for up to $5,000. Please note that high value item cover is only available under our Comprehensive plan.

  • If I claim, do I have to pay an excess?
  • It depends on the travel insurance benefit you’re claiming.  For example, you'll have to pay an excess for Medical, Luggage and Cancellation but no excess for Luggage Delay Expenses or Travel Delays.  The excess will be $200 or $100 if you paid the additional premium to reduce your excess.

A $3,000 excess applies for claims arising from or related to injury or illness for those over the age of 80 years.

  • Can I reduce my excess with Zoom?
  • Yes you can reduce the standard excess of $200 to $100 for an additional premium.  You'll need to select the excess reduction option within the purchase process.

  • If I buy your top Comprehensive cover, am I covered for anything that goes wrong?
  • Unfortunately, you wouldn't be able to afford the premiums if we covered you for everything. One of the biggest misconceptions is around missed flights.  If you get to the airport late because you dilly-dallied or the airline delayed your flight due to mechanical fault, you'll have to take this up with the airline.  But if you missed your flight or it was cancelled due to bad weather, strikes, riots or anything outside of your or the airlines control, then it's likely to be covered. There are limits and exclusions that apply to all travel insurance policies, so we strongly advise you to read our product disclosure statement (and search it using [ctrl+F] for key words relevant to your requirements) to see if our product is right for you.
